Thank you for you consideration, and we encourage you to apply in the fall, fall quarter 2024.

Intern Testimonials

My previous position as an intern for Flying Samaritans exposed me to the opportunities necessary to help solidify and narrow down my career paths as a future healthcare practitioner by exposing me to highly diverse groups of guest speakers alongside networks of individuals of all health backgrounds (dental, pharmacy, public health, etc). I thoroughly enjoyed meeting everyone on board and forming new relationships with everyone. Following my position as an intern, I am now one of the Publicity Chairs responsible for social related events and media! If you have the slightest interest in dentistry, pharmacy, or public health, I highly encourage you to apply as an intern for this year!
— Kevin Tran (Intern 2019-2020)
Hello, my name is Anne Del Rosario and I was one of the interns from last year. I loved my experience as an intern because not only was I able to explore more about other healthcare fields such as pharmacy, public health, dental, and etc., but also learn more of the insides and outsides of the club. The members were also very friendly and welcoming which made the experience much more fun. You get to develop new friendships and bonds with the members from working closely with them and learning from them as well. I highly encourage everyone to apply if you’re still trying to find what kind of career you want to go into in the healthcare field or even just to meet new people!

My time as an intern was amazing as I got to get really close with the cool members of Flying Sams and I gained an idea of how it would be on board. By the time board applications came around, I already knew all of the board and general members and was ready to help with publicizing, funding, and setting up our clinic trips. Currently, I am the fundraising co-chair.

I became an intern with Flying Samaritans during my first year at UCI. While the experience was definitely helpful in gaining experience, and building connections, the one thing that stood out to me was the various pathways that could be taken towards the goal of helping our local communities. Under the CR team I helped plan and attend volunteer events at elementary schools, food pantries, free clinics, and homeless shelters. With the Public Health chairs, we conducted research projects, provided health education, and much more. As a current fourth year and Public Health co-chair, I am so thankful for everything this club has taught me and allowed me to accomplish; all of which started with my application to become an intern.

My internship with Flying Samaritans was an experience that was very fun and educational! I was able to shadow the board members of various committees within the club and got to witness all of the planning that was happening behind the scenes. On top of this, I had the opportunity to plan a social and fundraising event with my fellow interns, enhancing my valuable leadership and communication skills. Currently, I am one of the Community Relation chairs for Flying Samaritans. If you have any questions about the internship or even about the club in general, please email me at fsucicommunityrelations@gmail.com.

Hello prospective interns,
My name is Thao, and I am currently one of Fundraising Chairs. I was also an intern two years ago. Being an intern for Flying Sam Club was such an unique and amazing experience for me, and I am sure, for other people too. As an intern, I gotta attend board meetings, shadow and work with board members of different committees, and more importantly, have fun with these amazing people. In addition, along with other interns, I had experience of holding a fundraising event and a social event. I really believe that these experiences strengthened my leadership and teamwork skills. I learned how to make concrete plans and how to defend my opinion but at the same time keep myself open to other creative ideas. Listing these benefits, I really hope that I convince you to apply for an internship. You will never regret it!!! And a little secret: being an intern will increase your chances of being a board member 10...x Thank you for reading my testimonial. Can’t wait to read your application!!! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via this email address: thaopp1@uci.edu.

Being an intern was a super fun opportunity for me to learn more about how the club operates and get to know our board! It was rewarding to shadow all the different committees, brainstorm new ideas, and see those ideas come to life. Now as president for the club, I use my experience as an intern to help the committees in whatever they might need whether it be through advertising, event planning, or recruiting. If you are interested in a leadership position later down the line and want to give back to the community, I would highly recommend applying to be an intern!
— Samantha Gille (Intern 2018-2019)
My Flying Sams internship gave me an inside look into the organizations’ “inter-workings.” Not only was I able to deeply involve myself in the planning, preparing, and operating of various Flying Sams events — I also had the opportunity to meet and connect with those on the board. I would highly recommend an internship if you want to become more involved in the org! The main reason [why I did not apply for board] is that I’m still unsure if I want to pursue a career within clinical healthcare. I felt that having tried out the organization and being uncertain of my career path, I could probably stray away from Flying Sams, which is geared towards pre-health students interested in attaining clinical exposure. I am currently exploring my options in other fields / career paths, namely public health (epidemiology) and economics, though I am still trying to keep my options open. I am involved in two organizations that are also somewhat geared to those interested in health, but I feel that the discipline of “medical humanities” is actually so broad to where I feel I’d benefit from my experience there, no matter my career path. TLDR, I am trying to keep my options open.

My previous experience as an intern was a great opportunity for me to see all the hard work the board puts into making the clinic trips and club activities happen. By shadowing different committees and board members, I was also able to witness not only the different sides of the club but also how they come together and work as a team. On top of that, it gave me the opportunity to create valuable friendships with everyone in the club. I would highly recommend everyone to apply because it is a great opportunity for you to create bonds as well as to learn and strengthen your leadership skills!
